ANALYTICS · THE YELL SOCIAL GLOSSARY

Bounce rate.

A website or app metric whose definition depends on the analytics system. In Google Analytics 4, it is the percentage of sessions that do not qualify as engaged sessions.

IN THE REAL WORLD

A simple example

If 30 of 100 sessions are not engaged under the property’s criteria, the GA4 bounce rate is 30%.

Put it into practice

Check your tool’s definition before comparing reports. Bounce rate is not the same as someone skipping a social post.
