ANALYTICS · THE YELL SOCIAL GLOSSARY

Share of voice.

A brand’s share of a defined set of mentions, exposure, or conversation compared with a selected group. The result depends heavily on what sources, competitors, and terms are included.

IN THE REAL WORLD

A simple example

A brand appears in 100 of 500 tracked category mentions during a month, giving a mention-based share of voice of 20%.

Put it into practice

Document the comparison set and query rules. More mentions are not necessarily positive attention.
